To get started, download the Gabscriber app from the Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nfd6cjf9xlc?hl=en-US&gl=US
Once the app is installed on your desktop or laptop, ensure that you meet the following hardware and software requirements:
- Internet Connection: Ensure you're connected to the internet.
- Microphone Setup:
- Install a working microphone.
- Configure the microphone by going to Settings → Privacy → Microphone (Turn on Microphone) → Enable Gabscriber app to access your microphone (Turn on Gabscriber).
- Eable Microsoft Speech: Go to Settings → Speech (Turn on Online Speech Recognition).
- Configure Microsoft Speech Recognition: Go to Settings → Time & Language → Speech → Speech Language (Select English (United States)) → Microphone (Set up your mic for speech recognition) → Voices (Choose a voice) → Voice Speed (Adjust voice speed)
After setting up your hardware and software, you’re ready to start using Gabscriber for transcription.
1. Start a New Transcription Session
Click the “Start Transcriber” button to initiate a live transcription session. Gabscriber will capture audio from your device’s microphone and transcribe it.
2. Start speaking into the microphone, and Gabscriber will transcribe your speech into text as you speak.
3. Real-Time Transcription
As you talk, Gabscriber transcribes your words into text, displaying the text in real time on your screen.
4. Save Your Transcription
At any point during the transcription, click the "Save Transcription" button. You can choose where to save your transcription, such as the Documents folder, by navigating to File Explorer → Documents Folder.
5. Stop Transcription
To stop your transcription, click the "Stop Transcriber" button. The app will automatically save your transcription in File Explorer → Documents Folder → Gabscriber Folder. The transcription file will be named "gabscriber_stop{timestamp}", where the timestamp represents the year, month, day, hour, minute, and seconds. You can edit this file as needed. Clicking the Stop button will also allow you to start a new transcription session.
6. Break Every 10 Minutes
After 10 minutes of continuous transcription, Gabscriber will take a brief one-minute break. After each break, the app will automatically save your transcription to the Gabscriber Folder and name the file "gabscriber_break{timestamp}". You can edit this file as needed.
To continue, simply click the "Continue" button to start a new transcription session. There’s no limit to how many times you can resume transcribing.

2. Test your microphone in the following ways:
- Go to Settings → System → Sound → Test Your Microphone.
- Or go to Settings → Time & Language → Speech → Microphone → Set up your mic for speech recognition.
3. Speak clearly and directly into the microphone for the best transcription results.
